Over the past 30 years the United Nations estimates that 200 million girls have gone “missing” as a result of “gendercide”.
In many cultures, “It’s a girl” is not the joyful news it should be. Instead it leads to themer infanticide of the newborn daughter. The problem is particularly acute in the world’s two most populous countries: India and China. Communist China’s one-child policy led many parents to choose to abort female foetuses because they wanted their only child to be a son.
